RE: Portable Air Conditioning?

Too bad they don't make it with the hoses for both cool and return air so you could stand it outdoors at night and pipe the cool air in. Then the noise would be outside too. I also wonder about where the water actually goes. It seems like the water goes back into the air it was taken from at some point. How sticky is that? On second thought, I guess it goes out with the warm air.

RE: USB Tuner or TV?

This sounds interesting. Does it work with both cable and antenna? Will it also work with digital signal next year?

RE: Conversion Van Paint Job

Remember the $50 dollar paint job discussion a year or so ago? http://www.rickwrench.com/index79master.htm?http://www.rickwrench.com/50dollarpaint.html It doesn't work for a metallic finish and it is a fair amount of work, but you can't beat the price

RE: GPS and B's

We have an LG 9900 cell phone and service with Verizon that offers 'Navagator' for 9.99 per month or $2 per only the days you need it. It works just as good as our Garmin 18 on the laptop and it is always with us. It automatically refreshes new data as it becomes available. We often use it as a phone book when we find "nearest places" in different towns that are unfamiliar. It only uses 'airtime' on the initial navagation search (a minute or so) and the rest of the trip is stored in memory and used as you go unless we do not obey her commands and she has to recalculate.

RE: I'm in love with my old rig

I'm the person who started the thread and I would definitely like to hear your stories (or the ones of other RVers) about RVing in the old days (or in old rigs these days). OK then if you insist. First a story. I can't remember the lake in Michigan that we were camping by but the water level in the lake was very low that summer and there were not too many 4 wheel drive pickups back then and regular pickups and cars were getting stuck trying to put their boats in and out of the lake. The 49 Dodge camper bus had dual rear wheels and a "creeper" gear, plus the hitch was about 8 or 9 feet behind the wheels so we helped more than a few boaters by 'floating their boats' while keeping our rear wheels on the concrete ramp. Here is a pic when the Mackinac Bridge was almost new. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-7/1199578/B2A.jpg width=650 Moderator edited picture size. Sorry Roger if we are getting too far off topic here.

RE: I'm in love with my old rig

Awsome, those were the days. Got any more pics of her, and some stories? Thanks! I do, but I'm not sure this is the place for it. I was just reminiscing on old rigs like those above.

RE: I'm in love with my old rig

Talk'in about old rigs - I still miss my first old rig from the early 60's that I found a slide of the other day. It wasn't a class "B" but it started life as a 1949 Dodge bus. The seats came out and after a few months work it had the ability to sleep 6, a fully equipped kitchen minus a microwave cause they were not invented yet, an enclosed bathroom, and a formal dining room. Top speed - about 50 mph. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-7/1199578/B1.jpg height=480 width=640 I see now that the propane tank was not in the safest place but I remember it being handy to turn on and off thru the vent window!

RE: Roadtrek 190 changes

. . . The big visible changes were the wider aisle thru the kitchen / bath area, and getting rid of the frame step-over at the side door. . . . . Jim, "Mo' coffee!" How do they get rid of the frame step-over? They still have the lowered floor between the frame rails don't they?

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

I saw a "B" in my driveway today and with the weather warm'in up I got a real itch in my bones to get in it and go!

RE: So, how exactly does the shower/drainage work in a B?

Did you watch the videos at the Roadtrek website? videos It is on the left side where the connection speeds are offered. If I remember correctly, Jeff Hanemeyer demonstrates how the curtain and drain works for the aisle shower.

RE: Older Roadtreks

I can't believe how time flies when I hear you guys calling 98 thru 2005 Roadtreks "older" but I guess you are right. Now I'll have to start calling my 92 RT Independent "ancient". Even though we had it a few years now it still operates like new. Everything inside still looks almost new and everything works except the flourescent light over the rear bed which can be easily replaced or repaired which I would do if we wanted to use it which we never do. I always liked the quietness and ride of my Chevy Avalanche but I have to say that the Roadtrek is a close second. I would not hesitate to drive it coast to coast (USA not just Michigan).

RE: Keeping Critters out of the B

I tried almost all the solutions except the inaudable noise(to humans)thingys but had the best luck with the 5 gallon pail with 3 inches of water (antifreeze)in the bottom and peanut butter smeared around the sides about 4 inches down. Set it next to a seat and they can't resist the smell and can't hang on to the sides so down they go. Once their fur is wet, they can't jump out and they go ni - night real quick. This method is also not limited to one catch either and if you don't check it every day the water keeps the smell down for a while.

RE: Anyone else luck out on B purchase?

I don't consider myself a good negotiator when buying my own stuff but when I found out that the owner of the RT we were looking at and ended up purchasing was retiring and moving out of the country and I was his only "hot" prospect and it was getting close to his move time, I just stalled and shut up and kept showing interest and just let him keep lowering his price When he finally made the offer I was almost ashamed to take, I said OK. I never regretted it since and still consider it "lucking out"

RE: Pig Peckers!

Pigs in a blanket. Everytime we go back to our hometime of Owensboro,Kentucky we go to The Big Dipper drive in and among many other tasty tidbits we get a Pig in a Blanket. Hot dog wrapped in bacon and deep fried on a toasted bun with mustard. Up here in West Michigan Dutch country, pig in a blanket is an old Dutch tradition. They are made up of rolled pork sausage and then with a kind of pie dough blanket with the ends tucked in and then baked in the oven on a cookie sheet. Hard to eat just one!

RE: 1863 Confederate Cookbook, 100 recipes

Very interesting! I often said that if today's people were dumped naked on a new continent, most of us would not know how to survive even if we had the book knowledge of how to make tools and mine ore.

RE: 1994 RT On A Dodge

We also enjoy our older 92 RT Independent. When the bed is down in the back, the tub partially blocks the passage of heated air from the furnace under the bed so I fixed the problem by making a new return air path with a new register in the tub surround cabinet. What a difference! Instead of a little hot air leaking up past the bed cushions we now feel warm air blowing from under the bed! The interior heats much faster. Last week when I was attending a 7:30 AM board meeting near Chicago I stealth camped overnite in the parking lot as outside temps dipped neared zero. I was comfortable in my sleeping bag all night with the thermostat set at 58 degrees. You can see how I modified the furnace here.

RE: Fish and Biscuits

ljquidry How many depends on how thin you roll it. 1/4 inch will make about 12 singles which I stack double before baking. As far as what to do with extra's? Eat em - they are too good to save. SWMO Not sure why proofing is needed-but guessing that it is sort of like the first rise when making bread. All I know that when I rush it - it doesn't seem to rise as good. coolbreeze01 The fish is Telapia; seasoned, floured, egg battered, potatoe flaked and fried in that order.

RE: Fish and Biscuits

Whole Wheat Angel Biscuit Recipe: 1/2 cup warm water 1 teaspoon bread machine yeast 1/3 cup whole wheat flour 2 cups Bisquick 1/3 cup warm milk + or - Add the yeast to the warm water in a medium sized bowl and stir till yeast is wettened. Let stand 4 to 5 minutes before adding the whole wheat flour. This makes a batter like a thin pancake mix. Let stand 20 minutes. Add the bisquick and the warm milk and mix then knead a couple of times on floured board. Roll out and cut dough. Let stand in ungreased pan or sheet while oven is heating for initial rise. Bake at 375-400 until golden brown. Enjoy!

Fish and Biscuits

We like to eat our fish on biscuits but they never seemed to fit quite right, so we now cut thin biscuit dough with a sardine can and stack them with butter between before baking so they come apart nice and make nice fishy blankets. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-7/1199578/RectangleBiscuitStack.jpg We use the "Angel Biscuit" recipe only we use whole wheat flour with the yeast before mixing the Bisquick with it. Now the fish fits the biscuit better with a little lettice and mayo. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-7/1199578/Rectanglefishsandwich.jpg
